Abyss is a retelling novel of the 14th century poem The Divine Comedy.
The narrator of this story wakes up in a forest not knowing how it got there. While trying to bring back memories, a chance encounter with a mysterious entity named Vigil opens an adventure that the narrator has to take in order to remember his past life up to that point. However, the trip isn't as easy as it seems, as the two of them have to travel to the land of the damned, where cursed souls live and eternal sadness feeds upon misery.
The book is translated by Mark Anthony Fenech while it represents the English debut of Maltese author Joseph Sultana.
The book was published in 2014.
